Update: Resident Services, Waste Disposal & Fire Safety Reminder

It is the end of week 7 for me, Sarah-Jane, in the role of Estate Manager, and I am as busy as ever. Things have calmed down somewhat since I started here, and this week I even had a moment to look through this amazing 1982 document, The Architects’ Journal, Covent Gardent Garden, about Odhams Walk that a resident pointed me towards. I’ve included a few pages below. The document is currently a bit hidden away in a link on our History pages, but I will make sure it’s easier to locate when I have more time to devote to the website.

Before I head home, I wanted to take an opportunity to make everyone aware of some new services available through the Odhams Walk website, as well as some key community safety responsibilities.

Online Service Requests & Parking Bookings

Residents can now use the website to:

Websites are always a work in progress. I have a long list of potential information to add, but if you can think of anything you’d like there, please do let me know.

Waste Disposal & Fly-Tipping

We have recently noticed instances of rubbish being left in communal areas and around the estate.

Please remember:

  • Do not leave rubbish, furniture, cardboard, electrical items or household waste in communal areas.
  • Waste must only be disposed of using the designated refuse and recycling facilities.
  • Bulky items must be disposed of through the appropriate collection service.

Fly-tipping is illegal and can result in significant fines. Westminster does take enforcement action against offenders and is not shy of issuing fixed penalty notices for illegal waste dumping and related offences.

Dumped rubbish creates health and safety hazards, attracts pests, increases service costs and negatively affects the appearance of the estate. Nor is it fair to expect people working on the estate to clear up after residents.

I am aware some residents have difficulty accessing the basement, and I have been in touch with Westminster about replacing keys with fobs. However, anyone fit and able should be taking rubbish that does not fit down the chutes to the refuse area in the basement.

Please do not block the chutes with items that are obviously too large to fit.

Please help keep our estate clean and pleasant for everyone.

Fire Safety: Absolutely No Fires on Balconies

For the safety of all residents, fires, barbecues, fire pits, outdoor heaters using naked flames, and any other open flames are strictly prohibited on balconies and terraces. Even a small fire on a balcony can spread rapidly and put lives at risk, and fire safety legislation is more robust than ever as a consequence of Grenfell.

  • No barbecues are permitted on balconies.
  • No fire pits or open flames are permitted.
  • Cigarettes must be disposed of safely and never thrown from balconies.
  • Flammable materials should not be stored on balconies.

There are no exceptions to this policy.

That’s it from me till next time. Have a good weekend!
